HR’S ROLE TODAY: STRATEGY OR TACTIC?
A few days ago, preparing a workshop for a team of managers, I “came across” a series of videos and writings by Amy Webb. This one of about 3′ is short but incisive and I think it can be an inspiration even in the HR context.
The months of intense remote working that we are experiencing are leading many HR Directorates to understandably have to work on “tactical” adjustments to support people towards an evolution in the way they work that, in most cases, they are not ready for.
Amy Webb touches on a crucial point in telling us that tactics – without the Strategy, the Vision to the point of contemplating a broader evolution of the System – drains energies, resources and, chasing the future, risks emptying the Strategy (even the “best”) of meaning.
That’s why HR’s role today is even more central and why I think it’s interesting to take up the challenge of building today’s choices starting from a broader, certainly more complex and ambiguous, vision of the future of work in organizations.
Quoting Amy Webb , “Don’t ask me to predict the future, ask me to help you prepare it.
