THE COMPLETE LEADER: THE END OF THE MYTH
No one, not even the “best” leader, can express all the skills necessary for Leadership. The unpredictable and complex historical moment is highlighting it.
Yet the myth of the complete Leader and the consequent belief that they have to live up to everything or the fear of not being adequate on everything, causes many leaders to “consume” themselves in this quest for completeness, sometimes (paradoxically) failing to make their own personal contribution to their organisation.
The point is that even the most talented leaders need the talent of others.
When the leader comes to this awareness, he can finally really focus on empowering his team.
Incomplete leaders, in fact, understand what they are good at and what they are not, and they have the ability to understand how to work with others to compensate for their limitations. They leave expression space to their team because they know that the team can get where their incompleteness stops them. And they know that stopping means being “human.”
